Skate Sharpening at Glacier Ice Rink

We offer skate sharpening serves for $10 per pair. You can save $1 per sharpening with a punch card, which is available online.

Since staff availability can vary, we recommend dropping off your skates at least 24 hours before you need them. While we’ll do our best to provide on-demand sharpening, it’s not guaranteed.

Drop-Off Process

You can leave your skates at the Skate Shop during open hours:

  • All public programs
  • Sunday–Thursday, 4:00–8:00 pm

If the shop is closed, follow these steps:

  1. Fill Out a Sharpening Tag: Tags are located near the Skate Shop roll-up windows. Complete the tag legibly and attach it to your skates with a rubber band. Skates with incomplete or unreadable tags will not be sharpened.
  2. Leave Your Skates on the Counter: We’ll sharpen them the next day and charge your credit card or punch card on file. When finished, your skates will be available for pick-up at the Skate Shop.

If Skate Shop staff aren’t available, a Zamboni driver can retrieve your skates.

Hollow Preference

You will be asked your hollow preference for your sharpening. The hollow refers to the curvature of the concave groove on the blade’s underside. It is measured in inches, such as 7/16″, 1/2″, or 5/8″and represents the radius of the grinding wheel used. The smaller the number, the deeper the hollow, and vice versa. We will sharpen skates at a 1/2″ unless otherwise specified.

Common Hollow Numbers

  • 7/16″ (Deeper Hollow): Provides more bite and grip on the ice, ideal for quick turns and stops. Suitable for skaters who prioritize agility.
  • 1/2″ (Moderate Hollow): Offers a balance between grip and glide, good for all-around performance.
  • 5/8″ (Shallower Hollow): Provides less grip but better glide, making it ideal for larger players or those who prioritize speed over agility.
