Player: Dave Liegakos, age 29

Hometown: Maple Grove, MN

Involvement with Glacier Ice Rink: President of the Missoula Referee Association (MRA)

What brought you to Missoula?

I came to play with the Missoula Maulers. Their coach at the time was from the same home town, so he recruited me.

How long have you reffed?

I’ve reffed for nine years and been on the MRA board for three.

What got you into reffing?

I started playing hockey when I was a kid. Moving into reffing has allowed me to stay involved with the sport.

What do you like most about reffing?

Helping youth understand the game more, as far as rules, faceoffs, etc.

What’s your favorite on-ice memory?

I officiated the 18U Tier II National Tournament in Buffalo, NY three years ago. It was a high level of both officiating and hockey, so it was fun.

What does Glacier Ice Rink mean to you?

It gives me the opportunity to get on the ice and participate in sport I love even though I’m not playing.

What do you do outside of reffing?

Hiking with the dogs.
